SIWDC
Receives $9,000 Grant
SIWDC was recently awarded a
$9,000 grant from headquarters for renovation of the kitchen at Mt.
Carmel House. Mt. Carmel House provides transitional housing to
20 women as they transition from homelessness. Women enroll in a
program that provides job development, life skills training and
educational opportunities. Every weekend Mt. Carmel House also
opens it doors to serve dinner to homeless women in the area.
Back in March, SIWDC decided to write up a proposal requesting funds to
renovate the kitchen at Mt. Carmel House over the course of the new
club year. Renovations include an additional refrigerator, new
kitchen appliances and utensils, reorganization and updated flooring.
In June, the club was notified that we have been granted $9,000 to aid
us in these efforts. Heather, Celia and Corinna met with Mary
Bridget from Mt. Carmel House and Esther, an architect and friend of
Corinna’s met in mid-June to tour the facility and discuss a plan
of action to complete renovations. Esther will aid the club by
lending her expertise to draw up architectural plans and advise on the
renovation as plans progress.
Stay tuned to follow the progress of this exciting new project.
