On Saturday, October 23rd, volunteers gathered on the mall to walk a 5K and attend a rally to raise awareness about human trafficking. Four local Soroptimist chapters contributed money for a sponsorship. The Soroptimist logo appeared on rally t-shirts! It was a very inspirational event and drew much needed attention to an important issue. I met up with fellow Soroptimists from SI Woodbridge and together we supported the fight to end modern slavery.
This past year, SIWDC was awarded a club grant to renovate the kitchen at Mount Carmel. Throughout the year, members were involved in various activities to make this happen and, after a flurry of activity over the summer, the kitchen is finally complete!
Soroptimists kicked off the project by spending an entire weekend scrubbing, cleaning, disinfecting, repairing, priming, and painting both the kitchen and dining room. The effort of these 40+ volunteers initiated an incredible momentum to improve Mount Carmel House.
